Yar'Adua must set up oil and gas commision - Militant

One of the militant groups in the Niger Delta, Niger Delta Coastal Force (NDCF) has called on President Umaru Yar’Adua to direct Governor Timipre Silver of Bayelsa State to immediately set up oil and gas commission as obtained in other states in the region.

The body, in a letter to the President dated November 9, 2007 with reference NDCF/008/AM/007 ,warned that its fighters would return to the creeks and make the state ungovernable for both the state government and the oil companies operating in the state.

It stated further “that the Federal Government should in the name of consolidating on the existing relative peace in the Niger-Delta region prevail urgently on Chief Timipre Silver, Governor of Bayelsa state to without further delay constitute an oil/gas commission as obtainable in Ondo,Delta, Edo and Imo state where 50% of the 13% derivation funds can be manage for the direct benefits of the oil/gas host communities in Bayelsa state”.
