Revisiting Mshelia's Matter - Daily Trust

I read with interest the account of what actually led to the unexpected disengagement of Mrs. Wahir Mshelia as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in May 2005.

As someone who worked with dedication, many Nigerians, including my humble self, were shocked at the manner the seasoned banker left he position unceremoniously. Well, Mshelia is alive to tell her story. Now we expect the federal government under President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua to look into the case.

I am one of those who have observed with keen interest the happenings in the CBN since Soludo assumed the leadership position of the CBN. While many Nigerians were carried away with the assumption that the banking re-capitalisation exercise was done to save the financial institutions, the truth of the matter is that it was an exercise done to further impoverish the North and weaken the financial base of the region. Soludo may have been sincere in advocating for the recapitalisation exercise but it affected the North negatively. Full Story
