Yar'Adua Has No Power to Unbundle NNPC - Rep - Daily Trust

President Umaru Musa Yar'adua lacks the power to unbundle the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) into five corporate entities as the law establishing NNPC has not been repealed, Mr Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Capital Market, has said.

Wadada said the unbundling of the NNPC is contrary to the respect for the rule of law, saying that the NNPC was established by an Act of the National Assembly.

He stressed that the president has no power to amend any law, saying that the unbundling of NNPC was "illegal, null and void".

The Federal Government in August adopted the Oil and Gas Industry Committee (OGIC) report recommending the restructuring of the Energy Ministry and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) into five agencies. Full Story
